Now that i’m finally free and have time to blog aswell as enjoy life I have decided to jet off to Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) for a nice 2 month holiday!

I have seen countless blogs where the authors are from Malaysia so I know I’ll definitely have time to blog. Its my first trip there and hopefully a good one.

Kuala Lumpur is an Asian tiger that roars: in almost 150 years, it has grown from nothing to a modern, bustling city. Take in its high-flying triumphs from the viewing deck of one of the world’s tallest buildings, then dive down to explore its more traditional culture in the back lanes of Chinatown.

I will be visiting various cities aswell as famous venues such as the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park and Petronas Twin Towers. Chinatown is another place I definitely want to check out too.

A modern Asian city of gleaming skyscrapers, but it retains much of the local colour that has been wiped out in other Asian boom-cities such as Singapore. It has plenty of colonial buildings in its centre, a vibrant Chinatown with street vendors and night markets, and a bustling Little India.

Do you recommend any places to visit whilst im there? Also will you be taking a holiday anytime soon?

If you have not heard of world of warcraft you surely have been living under a rock as its known globally as the best MMORPG game available on the PC. The website itself is actually fairly well designed. The message is quite clear that you get a quality product rather than paying and having the account removed from you as account reclaims are very frequent meaning you have literally spent good money on for nothing.

However, their website is safe and secure and they do accept paypal and other credit cards so you are relatively safe should you get ripped off.

Thats the PHP code some idiot or robot or whatever left under my sidebar.php page. This code was not exactly malicious in terms of making y’all download a virus or trojan but it did put up 30 links to some pharmacy/health websites. This type of practise usually results in you getting dropped from search engines or getting banned for a long, long time. Furthermore, it costs $45 a month to advertise on this blog

How I Noticed The “Hack”:

If you visited our blog today you would have no doubt seen all our adsense ads about “Phentirimine” which is some pill I assume for loosing weight. This normally means that somewhere I must have mentioned Phentirimine a heck of a lot and not only on the front page but everywhere. Therefore I checked the page source for sweethacks and voila there is about 30 links to some spam website (health/pharmacy).

If you see your ads change then you too should check your page source too. What made this hack/injection more brilliant in a way is that it used a PHP call up code to make it look less noticeable. A webmaster new to all of this would have never noticed this until he literally got dropped from search engines. In my case, the CSS was used to make the links tiny so it was not noticeable on the main website.

Google does not like hidden links.

You see the two normal hyperlinks, right? Do you see any other links in this paragraph? A user wouldn?t see any other links, even if they moused over every word in the paragraph. But if you happened to click on just the right word, you?d get whisked away to a hardcore porn site. Here, I?ll show you what you?d see in the instant after clicking on the hidden link, right before you head to the porn site:

See how the word ?mission? has a little box around it? It?s a hidden link. If you view the source of the page, here?s what you?ll see. I?ve highlighted the relevant link:

Someone went to a fair amount of trouble to hide the porn site link. The status bar gets set to empty using the onMouseOver action, so when you mouse over the link, you don?t see that it goes anywhere. And the style of the link is set so that the cursor doesn?t change when you mouse over the link as well. In my opinion, this is a good example of a link that crosses over into deceptiveness and violates our quality guidelines.

So Google does not like and I certainly do not like it. Perhaps it was because I did not update my wordpress frequently but I will be changing a lot of things and have already implemented new security measures to prevent this from happening again.

In our ever lasting quest to dominate the search engines we are still willing to learn the in & outs of what we like to call search engine optimization.

Below we have a few tip - 7 to be exact- that could be crucial to get you moving towards the end destination which is ofcourse, page 1 ranking for your keyword on google (and yahoo etc).

1) The Title Tag- When were talking about SEO Technique, the Title tag is one of the best and most powerful tags that you can use.

Every page should have its own title tag, each tag should include the keyword that you are targeting, along with sub-keywords associated with the main keyword that you seek to drive traffic from. Not only does this have SEO benefits but also makes yoru website look professional and coherent. Users will be able to identify where they are immediately giving you some sort of authority. Imagine having “index.php” as the title tag?

2) ALT Tags- These tags are most often ignored completely. Who would have thought that tags, that were meant to be for text browsers because the images didn’t show in text browsers, would become part of a technique to raise the keyword density of a webpage.

Your main keywords need to be included in some ALT tags- be careful, over-doing this could cause you to be banned and your PR could drop. Furthermore, the ALT tags in images help to show users which may be blind to understand what they where supposed to see if they are using any reader programs. Infact, should the picture not show up the ALT tag will explaining to the viewer what was meant to be here, i.e a short definition.

3) Link Popularity - Link popularity is the most powerful SEO tool, (arguably, of course). Typically a website must have a link to it, in order to be looked at by the spiders. This means that you should have at least 1-2 links going into your site from another website that has been visited by the spiders through search engines. Increasing Page Rank, depends on the number and quality of the sites that link into yours.

Keywords should be in the links, along with sub-keywords. Keep the links short; this creates an easily readable keyword term for the search engines to recognize.

Take SweetHacks for example, we rank quite high for a lot of keywords such as “tech blog” (subject to change) and as a result receive decent traffic from search engines. Furthermore, we are currently a PR5 due to the man inbound links we have from many other blogs so therefore link building should be an essential part to anyones online venture.

4) Keyword Density Research - You should research keywords first then decide on the keywords that you want to target. Dont over do it- you should use the keywords only once in the title tag, once in the heading tag, once in bold text, and then shoot for the density to be between 5% to 20% .

Keywords should also be strategically located throughout your website. Place them in all locations. Several search engines will recognize bottom of the page or sidebar text/links and discount them, this is because many website designers will load certain sections with clutter.

5) Page Size - Try your best to keep your web page over 5k and under 15k in size. I just designed one that is close to 53k, this is mostly because of pictures and a flash file being used, rule of thumb. Look at Yahoo! And Google, These are some of the fastest loading pages, and most popular, people dont like to wait even if you have cool graphics and pictures.

Your web page’s speed is important: robots will be able to spider your web page faster and easier. However, websites genereally now a days tend to be much larger with the popularity of images and video sites on the increase. Perhaps in the near future the spiders/robots would be configured by search engines to spend more time on a website in order to index more thoroughly.

6) Theme Rich in content - Search engines are looking at themes rather than just the words or pictures. Content is King I know, you hear it a lot, but its true! Webpages should have content that’s related to the targeted market. Link your visitors to other valuable and related content within your own site.

The more pages the better. A good tool that I have found to show you linking info is: http://www.UpTimeBot.com You can preload upto 20 pages and then refersh them, it shows all the vital information, along with how many pages are indexed from each search engine. The more pages you have indexed, the more traffic you will receives, its simple.

7) Cross Linking - within your Own Site You rely on other pages linking into yours in order to get indexed; the same is true for all the pages within your site. Any new content should be easily reachable through 1-3 pages of content. Linking back to your main home page, or a storefront will help you get indexed faster and achieve a higher Page Rank.

What I have found to also work is to link to already high PR, authority figure websites online. This has had nothing but a good effect on my pages as they have received a high PR.

Example? http://www.sweethacks.com/recommended/micfo.php - PR6, yes its higher than our homepage! Whats funny is this page used to be a redirect to Micfo webhost (which is currently a PR6). I can not really explain why but it is widely believe that linking to the right websites i.e high PR sites should positively affect your serps or PR.

8 ) Spam meta tag (keywords) - Joke! Seriously, do not do it! This will do absolutely nothing for you and may just result in you getting de-indexed from search engines. You may find this is recommended in certain ebooks but thats old/classic SEO those days are far over. However you should have a few and a good place is in the header:

Most webmasters know that Adsense generates a sizeable source of additional advertising income. That is why most of them use it to go after high paying keywords. They have with them the lists that tells what the keywords are and have already used various methods of identifying them. And yet, after putting up these supposed-to-be high paying keywords into their pages, the money they expected to come rolling in is not really coming in.

What is it that they are doing wrong?

Having the pages is with the proper keywords is one thing. But driving visitors to those pages is another matter and often the factor that is lacking.

The thing is, to get visitors to your high paying keyword pages, you need to optimize your site navigation.

Stop for a moment and think about how visitors are using your website. After a visitor has landed on a certain page, they have the tendency to click on another page that sounds interesting. They get there because of the other links that appears on a page that they initially landed on. This is site navigation. It is all about enabling visitors to move about your site. And one way of maximizing your Adsense earnings.

A typical website have menu links on each page. The wording on these links is what grabs a visitors attention and gets them to click on one of the links that will take them to another page of that website. Links that have free downloads are often good attention-grabbers.

This navigation logic can also be applied to driving traffic to your high paying pages. There are some websites that are getting a lot of traffic from search engines, but have low earnings. The trick is to try and use come cleverly labeled links to get the visitors off that pages and navigate them to the higher earning ones. This is one great way of turning real cheap clicks to real dollars.

Before you begin testing if this same style will work for you and you website, you need to have two things. Something to track and compare and some high earning pages you want to funnel your site traffic to. An option is to select a few of your frequently visited pages. This is ensuring fast result to come by.

Now, the next thing to do is think of ways to get visitors viewing a particular page to try and click on the link that will take them to your high earning pages. Come up with a catchy description for that link. Come up with a catchy and unique description for the link. Think of something that people do not get to see everyday. That will trigger their curiosity enough to try and see what that was all about.

You can also use graphics to grab your readers’ attention. There is no limitation to what you can do to make your link noticeable. If you are after the success of your site, you will do everything it takes just to achieve that goal. Just be creative. As far as many Adsense advertisers are concerned, there are no written and unwritten laws to follow regarding what they write. Just as long as you do not overstep the guidelines of the search engines, then go for it.

Also remember that it is all about location, location and location. Once the perfect attention grabbing description has been achieved, you have to identify the perfect spot on your page to position that descriptive link to your high paying page.

There is nothing wrong with visiting other websites to see how they are going about maximizing their site navigation. Hot pages? or Most reader? lists are very common and overly used already. Get to know the ones that many websites are using and do not try to imitate them.

Another way of doing it is to try and use different texts on different pages. That way you will see the ones that work and what does not. Try to mix things around also. Put links on top and sometimes on the bottom too. This is how you go about testing which ones get more clicks and which ones are being ignored.

Let the testing begin. Testing and tracking until you find the site navigation style that works best for you site.
