Google’s Official Statement on The Yahoo! Bid By Microsoft

February 4, 2008 by Abdalla Ahmed · Leave a Comment

I mentioned in the previous post that the combination of Yahoo! and Microsoft might be good for users on the net but Google do not seem to be happy. Everyone knows Google would not be happy but in their recently written blog article, they seem to hint on the fact that Microsoft and Yahoo! would try anything to upset the internet and gain some sort of unfair advantage by forcing consumers by a series of restrictions.

They go on to say that a potential takeover bid by Microsoft on Yahoo! will mean a heck of a lot of changes such as no more free access to competitors’ email, IM, or web-based services. Find below the exact quote by Google:

Could the acquisition of Yahoo! allow Microsoft — despite its legacy of serious legal and regulatory offenses — to extend unfair practices from browsers and operating systems to the Internet?

In addition, Microsoft plus Yahoo! equals an overwhelming share of instant messaging and web email accounts. And between them, the two companies operate the two most heavily trafficked portals on the Internet.

Could a combination of the two take advantage of a PC software monopoly to unfairly limit the ability of consumers to freely access competitors’ email, IM, and web-based services? Policymakers around the world need to ask these questions — and consumers deserve satisfying answers.

Personally I would welcome a direct competitor to Google who can provide better services such as Adsense and Adwords as well as a search engine which can deliver traffic. What do you think? Are Google jealous or are they really telling the truth behind such a hostile takeover bid for Yahoo!

Microsoft Wants to Buy Yahoo!

February 3, 2008 by Abdalla Ahmed · 1 Comment

Microsoft has offered to buy the search engine company Yahoo for $44.6bn (?22.4bn) in cash and shares. Yahoo cut its revenue forecasts earlier this week and said it would have to spend an additional $300m this year trying to revive the company.

It has been struggling in recent years to compete with Google, which has also been a competitor to Microsoft. So, I was right, google does own the internet and now microsoft wants to take them on. I hope they can offer a better alternative than google adsense because if they can then they will definitely gain momentum to shift google out.

This simple graph above shows the shares of microsoft and yahoo and lets be honest neither of them are doing really well but yahoo seem to be “sucking” a lot!

“This consolidates the marketplace down to Google versus Microsoft. These two companies will be going head to head.”

Do you think Microsoft should buy yahoo? I do!
