How To Mount IMG, BIN, ISO & CUE Files

January 17, 2008 by Abdalla Ahmed · 3 Comments

At some point in time, especially if you download a lot of movies or applications, you will come across the types of files I have mentioned above. The annoying thing is, you will need to have a program installed to be able to access the goodies beneath the extensions and as usual the only programs which people recommend cost money

But dont worry, I have put together a small tutorial on how to mount images unto a virtual drive for absolutely free!

Before we begin you will need to download Virtual Clone Drive which can be found by clicking HERE.

Once you have downloaded the program please go ahead and run the .exe to install the program. The program should install on any windows version as officially it says that you can only install on Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP but I now have it running on Windows Vista Home Premium flawlessly.

Once you have installed you can setup 8 virtual drivers (max) but I find that 1 is more than enough. To actually mount an image you will need to select the file in question (right click) and select mount image. If you choose to associate the supported image file formats and extensions with Virtual CloneDrive, you can then simply double-click on an image file to mount as a drive.

In my case (windows vista) I had to right click and select open with and choose “Mount Files With Virtual CloneDrive” - See picture below:

I hope this short guide helps you to be able to mount images more easier, no need to have shitty deamon tools with its spyware and ads, Virtual CloneDrive is your best bet.

Boost Your Router Signal with Tomato

January 16, 2008 by Abdalla Ahmed · Leave a Comment

A new piece of firmware has been released that allows us to increase signal power and boost it to high levels. Many of us know that “going wireless” with our routers can be one of the most annoying things which you experience as your likely to have experienced low signal levels or your connection simply just dropping while your playin over xbox live

With “Tomato” (new router firmware), you will never ever experience such troubles again!

“Tomato is a small, lean and simple replacement firmware for Linksys’ WRT54G/GL/GS, Buffalo WHR-G54S/WHR-HP-G54 and other Broadcom-based routers.”

It features a new easy to use GUI, a new bandwidth usage monitor, more advanced QOS and access restrictions, enables new wireless features such as WDS and wireless client modes, raises the limits on maximum connections for P2P, allows you to run your custom scripts or telnet/ssh in and do all sorts of things like re-program the SES/AOSS button, adds wireless site survey to see your wifi neighbors, and more.

Tomato Graphs As you can see from the image, you can produce graphs which show your signal levels and performance.

I have always believed the small things to be what makes a product/thing great. With Tomato you are offered many features -which you probably wont need - that are welcomed.

Tomato does almost everything DD-WRT does?from Wi-Fi signal boosting to Quality of Service bandwidth allocation?in addition to offering a simplified interface chock-full of fancy charts and graphs.

I would have written down a guide on how to upgrade your current router but it has been done already so if you want higher signal levels, no connection drops head on over to lifehacker now.

Thanks, el-F3r0z for letting us know!

We Are Upgrading Our Server!

January 15, 2008 by Abdalla Ahmed · Leave a Comment

With our continued success and growth we are happy to say we are undergoing yet another server upgrade! The traffic we have been getting recently has been overwhelming our VPS and its got to a point we cant even access our basic needs such as webmail or cpanel.

But do not worry, after special arrangements with our super hosts micfo, we have come to an agreement on a brand new spanking server (specs to be announced soon) where we will pay a very cheap yet competitive price…i’ll let you figure out the sum involved yourself.

It is very important that you choose a good web host - NOTE: Good doesn’t mean expensive - Good means reliable with great support. If the host you choose doesn’t have those two qualities, it’s going to make your life miserable.

You are going to be really frustrated because your site is never up and your emails are never answered (again a very annoying thing to experience especially if you run a service).

If you need a good host we highly recommend Micfo as hosts, they have never let us down and are sure better than our previous hosts who we refuse to name or even link to as someone might sign up under them and suffer the same fate as us lot did.

What To Look For In a Host:

  • Support - Your site will go down at times even though your most likely promised 99% uptime so you need support, preferrably via phone or live chat online.
  • Got What You Need - By this I mean the host offers a package that suits you. Not everyone needs a dedicated server straigh away. People new to the web are more than satisfied with a cheap shared package.
  • No database limits - Chances are once you create one website you will create another, then another and so on, having a limit on amount of database’s will be very annoying so choose a package that offers unlimited amount or alot (i.e 5x more than necessary)
  • Do Your Research! - Never and I repeat NEVER buy from a web host without doing a heck of a lot of what we like to call “googling”! Chances are you find people will have had problems with a host or find that they are scammers in which case you do not want to fork over your cash. Check out forums such as digital point and other webmaster forums/sites for people recommendations or reviews. From personal experience, trust me on this one!

Now there are lots and lots of more advice around the net on how to find the right host and we cant cover them all so make sure to search around. Remember, Google is your best friend (ok yahoo, we love you too!).

If you want to cut the chase short, we highly recommend micfo for their very competitive packages starting from simple web hosting to dedicated servers. They had our backs for the past 5 months and we love them!

    Gizmodo Owned CES

January 15, 2008 by Abdalla Ahmed · Leave a Comment

CES has no shortage of displays so when MAKE offered GIZMODO some TV-B-Gone clickers to take to the show, they went beserk and shut down just about every single TV. Watched the short video clip below!

“CES has no shortage of displays. And when MAKE offered us some TV-B-Gone clickers to bring to the show, we pretty much couldn’t help ourselves. We shut off a TV. And then another. And then a wall of TVs. And we just couldn’t stop. (And Panasonic, you’re so lucky that 150-incher didn’t have an active IR port.)….Gizmodo

I need one of them TV remotes! Also, I wonder why they where not able to put them TV’s back on so quickly if it just turns it off…any ideas guys?

However, Gizmodo are now banned from CES events for life but after the stunt they pulled, do you think it was worth it? Well at least they said sorry.

    CES: GPS for dogs

January 14, 2008 by Abdalla Ahmed · Leave a Comment

The $200 Zoombak pet locator straps to your dog’s collar and will text and email you if you dog leaves a defined ’safe area’.

You get the real-time location of Mabel and can check up online. So if you have an escaplogist dog (or just want to track exactly where you partner goes when they walk the dog) this is probably for you. CNet has video.

The GPS unit is waterproof and will hook on to your pooch inside a secure little pouch. The battery will last for about five days on standby or for up to 150 on-demand location requests. It’s pretty lightweight too, so it won’t pull your dog’s head down, making it look thoroughly miserable. No-one likes looking at a depressed dog.

Perhaps this just the thing I need for my little brother
