Feel the Bullets While Playing Shooter Games!

October 26, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · 1 Comment

TN Games, makers of “physical experience hardware,” will release a PC vest accessory on Nov. 21 that mimics the feeling of being hit by real bullets when playing first-person shooters.

The 3rd Space FPS Vest features eight embedded contact points that are said to simulate the direction and force of bullet fire in a first-person shooter game.

“Our patented vest technology now provides gamers with an unprecedented opportunity to physically experience their action… feel the rush of body slams, be crushed with G-forces, feel a stab wound or be blasted with bullet fire in either a single or multi-player game,” said Mark Ombrellaro, founder of TN Games.

When it goes on sale November 21, the 3rd Space FPS Vest will come bundled with TN Games’ multiplayer first-person shooter Incursion, as well as a vest-compatible version of Activision’s Call of Duty II. The bundle can be preordered through the company’s Web site for $189.00, though the site currently has the item discounted to $169.00. The vest is compatible with Windows XP “or higher,” and TN Games had not responded to whether a console version was in development as of press time.

TN Games claims the vest will also work with id Software’s Quake 3, Quake 4, and Doom 3 through free software patches. It is available in three colors: camo, black, and pink, presumably for the ladies.

Will you be buying one? I certainly will :D

PageRank Sucks!

October 25, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · 5 Comments

Okay, so we all know that Google “Ranks” websites on a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the best and 0 meaning you have not been indexed by Google or have no juice (links) from other websites. But instead of people gaining a higher rank or maintaining their current Page Rank (after the quarterly update), we have noticed that most major blogs and websites have seen a decrease (some by a big margin) in their Google Page Rank.

PageRank Explained

PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at considerably more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; for example, it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.” Using these and other factors, Google provides its views on pages’ relative importance.

Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don’t match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines dozens of aspects of the page’s content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it’s a good match for your query.

Yes, SweetHacks Technology Blog currently has a PR of 0 but we where predicted a 3/4 in the upcoming update however, with the heavy changes currently taking place at Google head quarters I wouldn’t be surprised if I got a new PR of -3!

Noticeable Changes:

  • autoblog.com PR6 –> PR4
  • forbes.com PR7 –> PR5
  • engadget.com PR7 –> PR5
  • washingtonpost.com PR7 –> PR5
  • joystiq.com PR6 –> PR4
  • seroundtable.com PR7 –> PR4
  • blogherald.com PR6 –> PR4
  • sfgate.com PR7 –> PR5
  • Now the list goes on and on and on so I have limited them but I think you get the idea of whats going on right now. Remember how I said theres 16k workers over at google? Well, now we know why there are so many!

    Why Are Google Doing This?

Who better to ask rather than Google Themselves?

Don’t participate in link schemes designed to increase your site’s ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or “bad neighborhoods” on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.

There you have it, do NOT sell links! If you are then make sure you put the “no-follow” attribute to make sure none of your google (pagerank) juice is not passed on. However, now a days people only buy links for SEO/SERP (google pagerank juice and search engine rank positions) so the no-follow kinda kills the whole idea of a text link sale.

The move by Google could well cause many smaller blog networks, including a number with funding, to close given their heavy reliance on text link ads and related sales that depend on strong Google page ranks for each site. Although traffic alone can and does sell ads on bigger sites, a drop from say PR7 to PR4 in one example makes the ad sell that much more difficult, particularly on blogs with little traffic. I?d suggest that the Deadpool will soon see a number of new entrants….Techcrunch

So my bet is, if PageRank is being tweaked and manipulated then we may have a new system on our hands….Trustrank anyone?

The TrustRank method calls for selecting a small set of seed pages to be evaluated by an expert. Once the reputable seed pages are manually identified, a crawl extending outward from the seed set seeks out similarly reliable and trustworthy pages. TrustRank?s reliability diminishes as documents become further removed from the seed set.

works on the principle that reliable pages rarely link to unreliable ones whereas unreliable pages will often link to the reliable ones. It?s worth noting that ?TrustRank? was registered by Google as a trademark back in 2005. (source: CashQuests)

Here’s a scene: it’s almost the end of summer, you’re about to finish off with a bang by throwing a party. All of your friends have taken turns to throw their own bash and now it’s your turn. The only issue is, everyone’s hosted ‘just another party’, you want to do something unique. Be it a BBQ, pool party, or just the good old fashion house party, adding a touch of glow to your shindig is just the edge you’re looking for.

Glow sticks, glow necklace, and body lights are inexpensive additions to any social gathering. The added flare of cool flashing broaches and neon colored necklaces will give your party the edge in design and uniqueness. There are countless of applications for glow sticks ranging from simple jewelry wear; create new or accent your existing games; even use your glow sticks underwater for brilliant glows. Play ring toss with necklaces, hide and seek with some glow sticks, or ‘create your own’ glow shape. Coordinate teams or even wine glasses with specific colors, the uses never end (well maybe they do at some point.)

Premier Glow offer these cheap glow sticks that more than do the job, infact Im thinking of ordering the “Got Beer?” party hat which quite frankly rules!

Tv-Links Shut Down For “Illegal Linking”

    October 22, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · 4 Comments

This is absolutely ridiculous! Tv-Links, a fantastic website dedicated to bringing us all our movies and favorite tv shows online for free has been shut down for “illegally” linking to other websites (mainly You tube and Google video) that show movies or tv shows that apparently should only be seen on cinema (or cable/satellite).

According to a report in The Guardian: “A 26-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested on Thursday in connection with offences relating to the facilitation of copyright infringement on the internet, Fact said.”

The arrest and the closure of the site - www.tv-links.co.uk - came during an operation by officers from Gloucestershire County Council trading standards in conjunction with investigators from Fact and Gloucestershire Police.

Fact claims that tv-links.co.uk was providing links to illegal film content that had been camcorder recorded from cinemas and then uploaded to the internet. The site also provided links to TV shows that were being illegally distributed.

I used to be a frequent Tv-Links user and I am absolutely disgusted with the way the whole situation has been handled. The people that should be behind bars are the multi millionaires/billionaires running YouTube/Google because they are the ones who actually host the videos.

As Jack Schoefield of The Guardian Blog said:

“And if linking is illegal, how many of us are guilty?”

Indeed, if linking is illegal, we might as well shut down the Internet, because there is no practical way anybody can guarantee the legality of what’s on the end of any link. Even if you could guarantee it at the time of linking, there’s no guarantee it would still be legal less than a second later, or for the rest of time.

If you are against this then please blog about it and make the world hear your voice! The internet is the one thing that we have that is free from corruption and stupid government laws. Speak Up and comment below to make your voice heard!
