Track That Child: Jacket Includes GPS!

October 31, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · 5 Comments

Parents may worry less about losing their child — and the kid’s expensive coat — with a new piece of winter wear that includes a global positioning tracker.

The jackets, released this week by the British clothing company Bladerunner, have a GPS tracking device in the lining. The device can track the jacket anywhere in the world, within 43 square feet.

Davis said the company decided to make a children’s version of the jacket aimed at parents concerned about their children’s safety.

“The jacket is not something that was released due to people losing their kids, It was originally made for mountain climbers, skiers and snowboarders….Adrian Davis

Using Google Earth maps, users can watch the jacket wearer move. The movements are updated every 10 seconds.

But they don’t need to be online to find out where the person is. Users can also receive alerts to their e-mail or cell phone when the jacket leaves the boundary, meaning parents could potentially receive alerts whenever their children skipped school, left the neighborhood or went to their boyfriend’s house — so long as the child was wearing the jacket.

A children’s tracking jacket costs $500, plus $20 a month for the tracking technology. An adult jacket costs $700….that means I wont be getting one but perhaps my future child will?

One thing which I have noticed is that whenever something like this is made public it always carries a HUGE price tag, some parents can not afford to buy such a ridiculously overpriced jacket! But then again…with our world infested with dangers (and pedophiles) can we afford NOT to buy such technology (and jackets!)

The Showdown: Halo 3 vs SOCOM

Finally after months of waiting it looks like Sony may be able to muster some form of a challenge to microsoft. Yes boys and girls, the much-anticipated PlayStation 3 debut of its SOCOM franchise of tactical shooters, SOCOM: Confrontation is set to be released this November (2007).

Before I go on about how “great” or not so “great” this game is, I think its only fair we review what the hype is all about.

Sony has announced a PlayStation 3 entry in its popular SOCOM series, namely SOCOM Confrontation. Given the abundance of obscenely large weapons, it seems a fair guess that all confrontations in the game will end in violence and battered egos. That’s precisely what Sony’s counting on, as the game does away with single-player pleasantries and prioritizes online mayhem. [JoyStiq]

SOCOM

We are promised and have been shown realistic SEAL gameplay and mission designs through association with Naval Special Warfare Command at the Sony Computer Entertainment America “Gamers Day” media event. You Battle through 12 single player missions in three new, heavily researched Areas of Operation ? each up to five times as large as past SOCOM AO?s.

“Utilize land vehicles and watercraft to traverse the terrain. Everything from a turret-equipped pickup to SEAL-team configured HMMWV to the SOC-R Assault Boat are available.”

Luisi (Game Director) explained that the goal of Confrontation was to create “the ultimate SOCOM online experience,” and to that end, the game will only be playable online. What’s more, the game will actually be purchasable online, as Sony plans to make it available through the PlayStation Network, as well as through traditional retail outlets.

SOCOM: Confrontation will feature team-based combat for up to 32 players, multiple international special forces units, customizable appearances, and clan-specific options, such as uniforms.

So we have seen a trailer which looks fantastic and have been told that we can play online with some gametypes featuring upto 32 players?! Man how can we decide between the two? I mean, yea they both feature just about everything but in the end I am going to stick with my halo 3 simply because the xbox 360 costs much cheaper to buy than the PS3…well here in the United Kingdom anyway.

If you want reasons specific to why Halo 3 is better then you should read my previous article detailing why it is a must sell for microsoft.

New PageRank Received….Yes its a PR3!

October 27, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · Leave a Comment

Didn’t I tell you all I would get a PR3 for my first update? I think its a big achievement for me and this blog and therefore I must celebrate this bigtime….what other way than to have a huge $100 contest? No? How about another Xbox 360 with a few games? No? I know, a Brand new PS3 perhaps  (More on this later)

What does this new PageRank mean for SweetHacks?

To be honest not that much apart from appearing as a blog with some authority and not just being the “new kid” on the block. I was thinking its time to earn some extra income via selling text links but that seems pretty much out of the question with the penalties google is putting on everyone…unless you all are happy with a “no-follow” tag being put behind your link? No? Yeah, I thought so.

Between thanks John for pointing out my new page rank. Heres a list of more websites that have received a pagerank update:

MubinAhmed - PR2 - PR4
World of Angel - PR0-PR3
PreBlogging - PR0-PR3
CashQuests - PR5
JohnCow - PR3
Enkay Blog - PR2
Xaasid - PR2

As promised a new blog theme is going to come soon that will have advertisement slots available for cheap, ill blog about it as soon as everything gets ready :)
