Nintendo Wii Update- New units no longer ‘moddable’

May 25, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · 1 Comment

News from a shop in 188* suggests the latest lot of Nintendo (Wii NTSC-J) can NOT be modded. Why you say? It is because of the 3-pins being physically cut from the surface-mounted IC. There are still some Wii NTSC-J unaffected in 188 and Golden, but as expected the price will go up soon once the news spreads out and everyone is struggling to be amongst the last ones to have it. So hurry if you have not gotten one yourself yet. Of course, if you only play legitimate games, then this does not bother you anyway.

Luckily, Wii NTSC-U is not affected yet.**

* 188 - Shop in Hong Kong that have moddable units still available for sale.
** We assume PAL and other units will be affected if this security measure does seem to be effective towards the modchip solutions available like the Wii Key.

Review: TEAM XECUTER CONNECTIVITY KIT V1(XBOX 360)

May 25, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · 1 Comment

The kings of Xbox modding made their debut on the Xbox 360 with the ‘Xecuter 360 Connectivity Kit’. Their high quality ‘Xecuter 360 Connectivity Kit’ features not one but two great pieces of equipment.

Included in the kit is an optical disc drive adapter (ODD) so that means you will not have to have your beloved 360 hooked up to your PC, no fuss of moving all your equipment across rooms and dragging around that huge 360 power supply! As part of the ODD adapter, advanced features such as a debug mode which allows an ODD to be recognised in Windows/Linux without any special firmware. This provides a future proof way for recognising the drive on your operating system for use with other functions later. If you don’t have a spare ODD lying around, and let’s face it the majority of us don’t then this is a really useful piece of kit.

As if that wasn’t enough, Team Xecuter have also bundled in a FREE SATA hard drive adapter for the Xbox 360, so now you can hook up your hard drive to your PC without opening your Xbox 360 case in conjunction with freely available software such as Xplorer 360.

Short Review:
The Good:

  • Free Sata Cable
  • Power Up DVD Drive via PC etc
  • Enable Mode B via button (for Hitachi DVD Drives)
  • Status LED
  • Eject Tray Button
  • Transfer Files from HDD to PC
  • The Bad

  • Wont Enable Mode B for Hitachi v78+
  • There are reports of the kit actually “blowing up” while in use.*
  • We have tried this product on 4 Xbox 360s each with a different drive of those being:

  • TS-H943 ms5
  • TS-H943 ms8
  • H-LG 59
  • H-LG 47D
  • H-LG 46D
  • And they where successfully flashed with the connectivity kit being used.

    Verdict: A magnificent 8/10

Stay tune for the next review which hopefully will have a video attached to show the product/gadget in use by one of our reviewers. :D

    Remover 2.1 Released (PSP)

May 24, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · Leave a Comment

Need some extra bytes on flash0 to fully customize your PSP’s XMB? Or maybe you have your own personal reasons for wanting to do so… In any event, developer Derces has released Remover 2.1 which will do just that. Disable all the useless functions/features you don’t give a crap about; thus, resulting in extra space for the much cooler stuff.

    Remover 2.1 features:

    • Disable Camera & GPS
    • Disable Asian fonts
    • Disable Network Update
    • Disable RSS channels
    • Disable Web Browser
    • Disable Certificate Utility (for 3.03 OE and under)
    • Disable Remote Play

Disabling these functions will not hide the corresponding icons; however, it will render them completely ineffective. And don’t worry — Remover 2.1 permits you to re-enable these features at any given time.

The only thing you should worry about is tampering with flash0. As we’ve iterated countless times, any homebrew app writing to flash0 could potentially brick your PSP. Use with caution and at your own risk.

InFeCtuS modchip- Wont get you banned from live?

    May 24, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · 2 Comments

Here’s more from the team behind the InFeCtuS modchip, the modchip you can reportedly use on whatever next-generation console you own.

We’ve previously reported that there is now a tutorial out from the people behind the modchip that should help you downgrade your PlayStation 3. This time we’ll focus at what the InFeCtuS modchip has to offer to Xbox 360 users.

    Modchip

In light of the recent announcement that Microsoft is now starting to prevent owners of modified Xbox 360 consoles, the team behind InFeCtuS saw it fit to claim that their modchip is one of the best solutions to play Xbox 360 online games while still having a modified Xbox 360. They reason that it is because their InFeCtuS modchip can be turned off while you play an original game on Xbox Live.

More on this as we get info.

Will you buy a second 360? (Poll + Survey)

May 24, 2007 by Abdalla Ahmed · Leave a Comment

As we all know, hacked xbox 360 consoles or “modified” as microsoft love to say, have been banned from accessing xbox live. However, with highly anticipated games such as halo 3 coming out soon, we are left in a sticky situation as halo 3 is by far a n xbox live game (after the campaign mode which most likely is short & easy).

A survey which was recently carried out shows that For Xbox 360 owners, 52% are neutral or likely to buy a PlayStation 3, and 66% are either neutral or want a Wii. In my world that means more losses for the dudes at microsoft.

Whats your opinion? Will you buy another 360 or depart from microsoft and become a sony’er or nintendo loyalist.

    Personally…Im such a halo freak im getting another 360 premium….oops i mean core :)
